Chicken Film3mn20 color mono 2016 Canadaby Rob ButterworthI sat in the shade of a willow tree at the farm. a quite place washed with iridescent cracks of light through leaves. A place super charged by our shared past. microstructures in the light identified with my memories of this place, the people, the events and their connection to the present. Sounds of the wind. the gentle foraging of chickens. playful guitar practicing by my daughter lexie sitting beside me. If this place and memory and time have an iridescence, could I find a way to preserve it eyes left; the garden. Eyes right; the chickens. eyes forward; lexie and the guitar. “it’s a film!,” I exclaimed and I leapt to my feet to find my bolex camera. wind the camera, shoot left. wind the camera, shoot right. wind the camera, shoot forward. a single 100ft roll shot in that moment. Hand processed and toned on that afternoon. a bright moment that could have been lost forever brought back to life by a projector bulb in the barn that evening. a moment i can hold in my hand. A moment needing only to be held up to the light to be shared.self-productionself-distributionclip Katagami3mn15 b/w sil 2016 Japanby Michael LyonsStop-motion animation made by photographing and rephotographing antique kimono resist-dyeing stencils in positive and negative. Spatial shifts and variations in the repeating pattern elements generate apparent motion. Photographed on Super 8 and hand-developed with matcha (powdered green tea).self-productionself-distributionclip Dimensions5mn40 b/w stéréo 2016 Canadaby Sandra EberA single simple loop layered, offset, multiplied, subtracted, and inverted until it is unrecognizable. The core is always present even when not obvious. As with an atom, the variety of possibilities from a simple base is potentially infinite.self-productionself-distributionclip Jane, Tarzan ez horren guay3mn23 color stéréo 2016 Spainby Bego VicarioTaken the famous scene of the film "Tarzan and his mate" (1934, Cedric Gibbons) where Tarzan and Jane swim together, we reinterpret its movements, rhythms and color to talk about a new paradigm.production : Eduardo Elosegidistribution : Eduardo Elosegiclip Chronoscope3mn22 color stéréo 2016 Italyby Sara Bonaventura"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." R. Buckminster Fuller. The main trigger concept is what we call here decrescita felice, degrowth, focusing on sustainability. Chronoscope is apparently a way to see the past, but what if the past tells us more about the future than we usually think? We are now in a point where we should just take a step back. Ephemeralization is not the answer maybe, but this ephemeral symbol, the butterfly, stands for self-organizing, self-regulated, self-sufficient - but never fixed or rigid - systems in nature, that can help us to reimagine an ecological approach.self-productionself-distributionclip Dead Reckoning2mn47 color stéréo 2017 Austriaby Paul Wenninger & Susan YoungA meditation on bad luck. Two animated manifestations of one character interact as he follows the maxim: "Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die" Represented in corporeal form by pixilated live action, our character journeys through a city. After falling on hard times, a drawn emanation of his mortality guides him to his final destination.production : Kabinett ad Co.distribution : Films de Force Majeureclip Disco2mn color stéréo 2016 Germanyby Boris SeewaldA handmade music video of approx 1250 paintings on paper. Movements of dancers
appear seamless and smooth, which is simultaneously juxtaposed by the scratchy flickering variations in each new sketch, creating an interesting contrast of chaotic disarray
and graceful linearity.self-productiondistribution : Nils Strüven Shortfilmdistributionsclip Black Line1mn20 b/w sil 2015 United Kingdomby Matt AbbissIt's a film about a black line. Made with TV Paint. (Sometimes there is more than one black line onscreen, and also there are grey lines too, so the title is very misleading).self-productionself-distributionclip What Goes Around Comes Around6mn02 color stéréo 2016 USAby Mike CelonaAn abstract piece in which synthesized images were transferred to VHS tape, remixed through an analog video processor and then back into a computer. The title alludes to the signals going between digital and analog manipulations as well as the solar/planetary images that emerge from the abstractions.self-productionself-distributionclip
