"For Sore Eyes" is another exploration of the ambivalence of the male gaze and gendered (dis)order. It is a suggestive reflection of life in the pyrotechnic, in sanatarium of consumerism freedom. But what is really freedom ?

18mn30   color   stereo   2007   Russia
by Galina Myznikova & Sergey Provorov
The young people who have come to the early music concert instead of taking pleasure from instrument fine sounding, have to struggle with a wind forced by the organ into the music hall. The air streams subjected to musical impulses, run into a listener in spite of his will. Voices are not audible, but they sometimes break through noise of the wind and music. Force of an air influence gives compound psychophysical experiences. Something tries to establish a certain transcendental dialogue which sets in for a moment, but then disappears Ö At one time the wind accompanied by low monotonous organ noise, brings motionless sitting people to certain unconsciousness, to mad activity: fight is started at the concert.

"Pledge" is a found footage piece created from a collection of obscure, Vietnam war era documentaries. The material is sadly timeless and provides one with an abstract medium to ruminate about war and, hopefully, peace.

12mn   color   stereo   2007   USA
by Neil Needleman
Dada was a Dadaist, and that drove him to business. Now, a dying old man, a wildly successful international business tycoon watches one of his free-spirited fatherís bizarre videos and talks about his contentious relationship with his late dad. Their relationship was one of art versus commerce ; the love ambiguity and surprise versus the need for order and defined meaning. Then again, this maybe this is just pure gibberish.

A little boy dressed up as a mix of an eunuch and a geisha is sitting singing and playing the accordion with his father. In some of the scenes the boy has a dog in his lap while he sings and gesticulates. The music in the video is a mixture of norvwegian folkmusic and the boy singing intensely false with improvised texts. There is no traditionnal narration except from the development of the music.
