sadescription bullfrogs and
4mn45   color   stéréo   2013   Spain
by Toni Crabb
"bullfrogs and" was made in collaboration with The Mbira Centre, Harare / musician Albert Chimedza. All images and sound material were gathered onsite at the centre, where the mbira (Zimbabwean thumb piano) is produced. The piece studies and visually pinpoints polyrhythms occurring in the environment of the centre and then sets up an experimental relationship by juxtaposing them with a rehearsal of a composition by Chimedza.

"Ri Do" plays on visual and sound perceptions. It is built on different veiling principles such as darkening, superimposing and phase shifting. This technique allows to erase reality and leave a special place for each viewer's imagination.

sadescription ...tout est possible
3mn21   b/w   stéréo   2013   Argentina
by Gabriel Otero
Dialogue About a Dialogue: J. L. Borges August 19, 2008 by Sineokov. A: Absorbed in our discussion of immortality, we had let night fall without lighting the lamp, and we couldn’t see each other’s faces. With an offhandedness or gentleness more convincing than passion would have been, Macedonio Fernandez’ voice said once more that the soul is immortal. He assured me that the death of the body is altogether insignificant, and that dying has to be the most unimportant thing that can happen to a man. I was playing with Macedonio’s pocketknife, opening and closing it. A nearby accordion was infinitely dispatching La Comparsita, that dismaying trifle that so many people like because it’s been misrepresented to them as being old. . . . I suggested to Macedonio that we kill ourselves, so we might have our discussion without all the racket. Z: (mockingly) But I suspect that at the last moment you reconsidered. A: (now deep in mysticism) Quite frankly, I don’t remember whether we committed suicide that night or not. [From Collected Fictions, by Jorge Luis Borges, translated by Andrew Hurley]

sadescription Hannah
5mn10   color   stéréo   2013   France
by Antoine Ledroit
"Maybe this gossip in which I was involved would have ended, after milleniums of incidents played in loop." (Michel Tournier - Friday or the Pacific limbos) This movie is the story of the slow erasure of Hannah’s identity, story which itself disappears quickly in a simple succession of cycles and materials.

sadescription Lezuo
17mn   color   mono   2013   Germany
by Giuseppe Boccassini
In 1843 Andrea Lezuo, a carver born in Arabba, Northern Italy, sets sail towards "La Merica" on board the Ehon Ship SONG LYRICS: 00:14:56 --> 00:15:38 "Please come back, this house is waiting for you, please come back, we will stay always together". During the shooting (only internet found footage re-shot) super 8 and 35mm amateur old movies have been used and their frames were physically overlapped to the optics of the camera, determining the transparency of color and brightness. Other analogical filters, such as magnifying and distorting ones, old lenses of cameras, cardboard tubes and plastic, glass jars and colored plastics have been used. The tension to the invisible, to the nebulous that passes through the analogical and the filmic, is an aesthetic position that nostalgically jokes with the hyper realism of the contemporary preoccupation with high definition.”

sadescription HUMANITE ANNEE ZERO
6mn51   color & b/w   stéréo   2013   France
by Florence Gatineau-S Bex
Security cameras are watching us, impassively. The footage they produce is unconcerned about humankind's misfortune. But through the absolute silence of the cosmos, voices, cries and whispers, ghostly traces of a humankind that keeps disappearing, resurface from this footage. All the footage in this movie was taken from the web and shot by security cameras.

sadescription 2012
2mn21   b/w   stéréo   2012   Austria
by Johannes Gierlinger
In the film "2012", fear and desire are constantly oscillating. The camera takes us to the boundary of a closed property. Initially the eye is reluctant to approach even further but curiosity is takes over and forces us to enter the house. Although a warning knock is heard, we devote ourselves to the unknown. We see the body of a restless sleeping man and transcend into his imagination. The immersion into this scenario can be seen as an escape from our bodies. Is it a dream? A time travel? Or is it the longing for the long anticipated apocalypse? Weightless, the viewer moves between reality, illusion and film. The story is about the burden of existence and of the Apocalypse which may have taken place already, without that we have taken note of it. After the dreaming protagonist wakes up, we once again have the perspective of the camera lens and leave the scene, the place of imagination, the place of cinema. Maybe we escaped the Apocalypse?

sadescription Picture Particles
5mn40   color   stéréo   2014   Germany
by Thorsten Fleisch
Individual elements from a carrier of visual information have been isolated and used to construct alternative visual reagents. Repetition (in space and in time [and in moderation]) is administered as a binder to tame the wild particles in motion, achieving a golden ratio of the mind's eye. Film was once manufactured and distributed on thin translucent plastic strips rolled on reels. On the strips you could see the individual images that made the film. It came in different formats like Super 8, 16 mm and 35 mm (the size referring to the width of the strips). For this film found Super 8 footage was the source material. It was cut to small pieces and investigated further with other film formats (16 mm & 35 mm) by means of optical printing and reshooting the projected material. After applying this analogue feedback loop for a while the result has been transferred to video and edited further.

sadescription Disparitions
6mn38   color   stéréo   2014   France
by Inés Wickmann
The idea of these disappearances refers to Yoko Ogawa's novel “Secret Crystallization”. The music was composed first with a very noticeable formal principle: some of the soundtracks will gradually disappear during its five short parts. The video follows the same principle of progressive visual disappearances. The music is an original composition by composer Francis Dhomont.
