sadescription we take the wind
12mn15   color   stéréo   2013   Australia
by Scott Morrison & Monika Brooks
Morrison's sun soaked abstractions have been intertwined with Brooks' piano improvisations. These recordings have been captured, re-rendered and stitched into Morrison's footage to create a unifying, elevating composition of light and sound. The video's soundtrack is a mixture of this soundtracked ambience and the field recording of the locations in which the video was created.

sadescription 3 Way Flicker
7mn48   color   stéréo   2014   Republic of Ireland
by Ocusonic
"3 Way Flicker" uses the juxtaposition of three elementary components to create an audio visual work which contains additional rhythmic and harmonic complexities. The individual audio visual elements were synchronously generated, using analog technologies, and result in a complete synesthetic experience.

sadescription Seventh Submarine
5mn23   color   stéréo   2014   Canada
by Allan Brown
A film that mines (as in mining) the disjointed and fragmented minds of gifted “quiz kids” who are never given the chance to answer the question… “What reptile is a natural submarine?”, is that Ingrid Bergman and is that really a “dance of death”.

sadescription Ile de Frioul
4mn10   color   stéréo   2013   France
by Antony Jacob
Distraught and comforted by the fact that this place makes me, like a vast living organism that comes in contact with me, board me, it's by the grace of analogy, I project my pictures with the presence of these ants that circulate and fall in my traps set in stone...

sadescription La course
3mn45   color   stéréo   2013   France
by Jean-Michel Rolland
Rhythmed by the race of five horses shot in Marseille Borély, this video, in tribute to Muybridge, doesn't intend to take viewers into the universe of racetracks but rather to communicate to them the frenzy felt during this frantic and painful race.

sadescription black rectangle
1mn30   color   stéréo   2013   Canada
by Rhayne Vermette
"Time has not been kind to Kasimir Malevich’s painting, Black Square. In 1915 when the work was first displayed the surface of the square was pristine and pure; now the black paint has cracked revealing the white ground like mortar in crazy paving." This film documents a tedious process of dismantling and reassembling 16 mm found footage. The film collage imitates functions of a curtain, while the recorded optical track describes the film's subsequent destruction during its first projection.

sadescription Head, Tail, Rail
6mn39   color & b/w   stéréo   2013   Portugal
by Hugo Olim
The starting point of this film was a set of 35mm trailers acquired from a various abandoned cinemas. This work reveals the veiled and forgotten images used by the commercial film industry. In Head, Tail, Rail, the film leaders are regenerated to create new forms, bringing to the surface the obtuse side of filmic images.

sadescription Event Horizon
7mn40   color   stéréo   2012   South Korea
by Jung-Chul Hur
“Event Horizon” is an abstract film by Jung-Chul Hur with music by Fundamental Harmonics. Both music and film were inspired by astrophysics “Event Horizon”, the main motif for this project. This video piece runs over 7 minutes, synchronizing with every detail in the music. Various scenes explore a constant transmutation of colours, lines, shapes, forms, textures, patterns, lights, reflections and structures.

sadescription Cellular Activity: Postcard from New Zealand
5mn56   color   stéréo   2013   USA
by Neil Needleman
This video consists of scenes and sensations captured during a 2012 trip to New Zealand. The visual material has been edited using a formalist strategy that I call “cellular activity.” A “cell” is a very quick burst of individual shots (usually two to five shots) of just a few frames each.

sadescription La sortie de l'usine Fralib à Gémenos versus la sortie de l'usine. Lumière à Lyon
1mn40   color & b/w   sil   2014   France
by Frank Gatti
The output of the Fralib factory in Gémenos, product with the workers in struggle occupying the site, was filmed with the CCTV system installed by their former employer, the multinational Unilever. During the shooting (only internet found footage re-shot) super 8 and 35mm amateur old movies have been used and their frames were physically overlapped to the optics of the camera, determining the transparency of color and brightness. Other analogical filters, such as magnifying and distorting ones, old lenses of cameras, cardboard tubes and plastic, glass jars and colored plastics have been used. The tension to the invisible, to the nebulous that passes through the analogical and the filmic, is an aesthetic position that nostalgically jokes with the hyper realism of the contemporary preoccupation with high definition.”
